I came across some research on metformin that's got me a little concerned. You see, apparently this drug can have some negative effects on the benefits of aerobic exercise and progressive resistance training. And it all comes down to AMPK and mTOR. So, basically, when you take metformin, it upregulates AMPK, which in turn downregulates mTOR - and that's like your body's switch for protein synthesis. What that means is that someone who's taking metformin doesn't get the same level of muscle healing, building, and growth that they would otherwise get from exercise. There's also some impact on mitochondria, but honestly, I can't quite recall the mechanism behind that. But the bottom line is, this is definitely something to keep in mind if you're taking metformin and trying to build muscle or improve your fitness.

@husky I think I remember David Sinclair mentioning a protocol to follow to minimize this effect. Will try to dig it up.
